Posters and
Fliers
It would be advisable to poster and flier areas as far as 5 miles for a cat,
and 10 miles for dogs, depending on the case.

An example of lost dog posters that we
suggest that you use.
You may email us for sample templates.
Here are the assembly directions for above poster.
Sightings are one of the most important steps you can take in
order to find your pet. Sightings from your posters will be the link to
pushing you closer to your pet. If done properly, you should receive
sightings, if your pet is in that area. The more people that know, the more
likely it will be that your pet will be returned.
This is not your “grab a piece of notebook paper, and staple it to a pole”
kind of poster. These are posters that should bring results! Here
is what you need:
Purchase several pieces of poster board enough to effectively cover the area
at all major intersections and shopping centers. You will be cutting the
poster board in half, so you will have double the posters that you
originally purchase.
Purchase one package of fluorescent 8½ X 11” paper, different color than
poster board, and one package of white paper.
Glue
Duct Tape
Staple Gun (around $15 -$20)
Poster shown is made by taking a big poster board and cutting it in half to
make two. Approximate size will be 14”X 22”.
Top flyer will be a
picture of your pet, and should be
a full size,
clear, focused, color picture.
This
should be printed on white paper, not the fluorescent colored paper.
(Note- If you own a breed that requires professional grooming make sure you
have pictures of your pet at different stages of their hair growth so that
you can choose the picture that best matches your pet at the time that
he/she was lost.)
Bottom flier
will include the contact information as well as a small description of your
pet, Use the contrasting fluorescent paper for this flier. If you are using
pink poster board, then use yellow fluorescent paper for your information
flier.
The
first line should be as big as you can get it that says, LOST DOG/LOST CAT.
I have been able to use 105 font size in Arial Narrow, bold, landscape
layout.
The
second line should include a small description of your pet, (Note- Always
keep something distinctive about your pet to yourself to help identify them
when you start getting calls from sightings.) Size 36 font, Arial Narrow,
bold.
The
third line
should read "Please call with ANY information 24/7". Size 26 font,
Arial, bold.
The
forth line should include a phone number
that you can be reached
24/7. I use size 86 font, Arial Narrow, bold. Change your voicemail
message stating that you have lost your pet and for them to please leave
their number where you can reach them and that you will call them back ASAP.
The fifth line- “REWARD” Size105 font, Arial Narrow, bold.
You
need something to motivate people, and there is hardly any better motivator
than $$ (according to some). Do not put the dollar amount on the poster,
unless it is a substantial amount and do not put an amount that you can not
afford. Large amounts can bring a lot of attention to your missing
pet.
The
most cost effective and best time saver you can do for your poster
and/or fliers is to have them laminated.
(Note- If you use plastic page protectors, place the opening to the bottom
so that rain will not collect inside.)
You
now have your fliers ready to be affixed to your poster board.
You
will use your glue for this.
Affix top and bottom fliers as shown above.
Where
to poster: You can send me your address and I may be able to give you some
direction, but you will know the area best. High traffic areas are best for
the use of these posters. Basic roads of travel where the pet was lost, in
and out of shopping centers and at stop lights. Choose roads that are also
easy for a passer by to pull over and get the information. People who are
traveling are usually going somewhere, right? They are usually in a
hurry, and trying to get to their destination as fast as possible.
Therefore, poster three posters in a row. A person that is in a hurry may
catch a little from the first poster, so give them another one a few hundred
feet down the road and yes, give them one more another few hundred feet.
Hanging your poster: Easiest are wooden telephone poles that are in a line
and that are close to the side of the street. Beware though, there are areas
where it is illegal to hang posters and you run the risk of the town pulling
them down or being fined. Sorry to say!
You
want to make this as easy on the public to see as possible. Staple at the
top and bottom left and right corners and in the center.
Hanging on Metal Light Poles- Best to use duct tape here. Some say to use
tie wraps, but nothing works as well as duct tape!
Check
your posters regularly to make sure they are in good shape, readable and
also have not been pulled down. If they are being pulled down you must then
figure out who and why. At which point, if it is okay to poster the area,
then you may consider putting them higher up the pole to make it harder to
be torn down.
There
are many variations in what you put on your poster. Just make sure they are
highly visible, and are placed in great areas.
Example from
Missing Pet Partnership.
Fliers
Beware-
It is against Federal law to leave
fliers or any other unstamped or unpostmarked material in someone's mailbox.
And in some areas, it may be against the law to post posters, so make sure
you check with your town regulators.
Fliers need to be handed out not posted on light poles. These are going to
have more information on them than the posters. They are also going to be
placed in stores, Vets, left with neighbors etc.
Fliers need to also have a clear, color picture of your pet.
